Glamour Puss Hotels - Dubai

So for this installment of Glamour Puss Hotels I am going to focus on what to look for in a 5* hotel in Dubai.

When deciding which hotel to stay in, usually I look at location first and when staying in Dubai it makes sense to decide where you are likely to be spending most of your time as Dubai is so large.  For example if you were at Dubai Mall and wanted to get to The Walk, Jumeirah Beach you are looking at around 30 minutes in a taxi.  Of course there are other options to use such as the Metro but it is all time consuming however you decide to travel and when you have been to Dubai a few times (in my case around 30 times) it really becomes just unnecessary....I've never lived in Dubai, I have always been a tourist so I want to focus all the time I have on enjoying my break not timewasting on the motorway.

For the past couple of times I have visited Dubai I have been interested in staying on Jumeirah Beach near The Walk and the Marina because my main priority was staying somewhere near to lots of nightlife such as nightclubs/bars/restaurants and also with access to the beach.  There is Marina Mall on the Marina and also Pier 7 which has 7 floors of restaurant choices.  Staying in this area means less time in taxis and more time enjoying your holiday. As with any holiday location, the hotspots change all the time so I expect by next year I will be looking at a new location!

I think my favourite perk in a hotel rate is if they include breakfast.  I don't understand why so many hotels these days do not include breakfast in the usually already expensive room rate.  So when my friend and I were collating room quotes from various Dubai hotels, the ones offering this perk got to the top of the pile.  I had never heard of the Habtoor Grand hotel before, but on doing some research realized it was in the exact location I wanted to stay, on the beach next to Zero Gravity (sky dive center) and they offered a really good corporate rate with breakfast so we decided to try them out in March 2017.

Was very impressed with the 5* Habtoor Grand.  Had a very good check in, although we could not have our room early the receptionist was very well trained and made sure we were well looked after offering us something to drink and advising us of everything we needed to know about the hotel.  So we decided to go hit the beach and there is lots of choice, a huge family pool then you walk down to the beach where there is a private hotel area and then there is also Andreeas which has an adults only pool with loud dance music and inflatables!  There is also a lovely quiet infinity pool on the third floor of the hotel and we enjoyed that on our final day to relax in.

Stayed at the 5* Royal Meridien Hotel next door to the Habtoor Grand in May 2017.  As it was for my friends birthday and she loves this hotel, thought would try out a seaview room here.  Got a great view and balcony, was happy with my room.  This hotel is slightly closer to the Walk and shops and there are various shops and restaurants directly outside that is if you ever wanted to leave the hotel!  Great beach area and pool choices though I don't recall an adults only pool.  Wasn't overly impressed with the check in/check out, this has put me off going back but the hotel itself was nice enough.

If you are interested in staying at either of these Jumeirah Beach hotels which are next door to each other in the same area, take a look at my Instagram for videos of the resorts from the balcony!

So possibly these two hotels aren’t glamorous enough for you, maybe hotels on the Palm could be? About four years ago my favourite place to stay was on The Palm Jumeirah.  Especially as events back in the day such as Sandance were taking place at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis and the traffic used to be so bad to get there, it was better to actually stay on the Palm.

Atlantis is one of the icons of Dubai so I had to stay there at least once.  We had an ocean deluxe room there with a great view and balcony which was quite nice but not totally amazing.  The hotel is huge and a lot of people stay there, so the check in queues tend to be astonishing but move fairly fast.  The resort is great to walk around or get one of the golf buggys to move around and you get access to the water park.  They also have dolphins there and you can pay to interact with them.  There is also an aquarium which you can access for free if you are staying there.  Lots of restaurants such as Nobu to pick from and there are different pool/beach options, the adult area is Nasimi Beach.  You really don’t need to leave to go anywhere else, when you are staying there.

Fairly close to the Atlantis is another hotel called the Kempinski Hotel and Residences Palm Jumeirah.  I stayed there for a birthday treat with three friends and we got a two bedroomed suite with private pool.  Think this was my favourite stay in Dubai because we had so much space and having your own pool is just wonderful.  The resort itself is lovely with gardens to walk through, the hotel pool is huge and the private beach has lovely views of the Palm Jumeirah lagoon.  We didn’t really bother with the hotel pool as it was full of families and children so stayed in our private area most of the time.  Could be worth buying a beach day pass if you didn’t actually want to stay here.

Staying on the Palm is great, you can get taxis fairly easily and doesn’t take long to get to and from places in Jumeirah.  However do note that if there is a big event going on at The Palm it becomes a total nightmare situation.
